Design Storm was mentored by Michael Dempsey (PCPA) and Stephen Judd. Design Storm teams set, costume and lighting designers with a director. Everyone has read the assigned scripts prior to arrival at the festival. This year The Birds and Brecht’s Galileo were the two choices. The teams met for several hours each day. The focus was on the process, rather than the process. The mentors guided this process while encouraging “Thinking outside of the box”. “12/10 sketches” was mentored by Chet Longley. This event teams designers, directors and playwrites of original 10 minute plays. The plays are staged during the last day of the festival. The paper projects (12 sketches) for each play are displayed in the lobby outside of the theatre during the performances. Feedback was provided by the three Faculty Summer Intensive Nominees. We also had a book signing “Developing and Maintaining a Design-Tech Portfolio” with Rafael Jaen.
